When I first moved to San Francisco six years ago I thought, “This was it.” I’m at the pinnacle of homosexuality, there is no reason for me to really travel. Other than going to Los Angeles and maybe Seattle, but then again, I was a baby bear gay at 30, “(she was late)” i had no clue what else is out there but once I saw my friends desert the city after MLK day and then from August to end of September. I finally have the muster to ask, “Where are you heauxs going to?!” and here is the answer. Bear Week!

Before we get into it. Bear Week is a week or maybe two that a vacation town or an influential city opens its doors to around 3,000-6,000 gay bears. It’s tons of fun and you get to meet people all around the world. You may find love, or sex, probably both…but the main idea is to cultivate relationships within your community and build yourself…. but since we are focusing on California, I want to talk about two big events that are important to us. One in Northern California and the other in Southern California.

Also remember that these events during the week is also about education as well. You will learn a lot of history among a broad range of topics about the gay community...

Ok.. Let’s begin.

LAZY BEAR WEEKEND

Guerneville, CA

Late July-Early August

Lazy Bear is considered as one of the most entry level bear weeks that anyone that is a bear or is interested in bear culture should go to. Nested in a small town in Sonoma Valley (yes wine), Guerneville, is a spot that will not let you down. You have lakes to play in, rivers to float and forests to camps. There are a few resorts as well there and a couple of wineries down the street too.mp This weekend is about education and cultivation. Getting to know your history and cultivating some relationships that can get pretty darn hot. Let’s talk about the resorts!

There are three resorts on the same street. R3; for the fun typical speedo millennial type gay bear party that loves the pool and drink. Western Sonoma, for the bears that love a good mid-tempo type event, still the pool and you can meet people…and my personal favorite, The Woods, a nude optional resort, with play areas in the back (the shower), the pool and rooms. Everywhere is a play area in ‘The Woods’ but the music is great. Tons of throwbacks from yesteryear.

Price: $1500-3000.00 for a group of 4/week

INTERNATIONAL BEAR CONVERGENCE

Palm Springs, CA

Late January-Early February

IBC in short, is a big event to kick off the new year nestled in the desert plains of Palm Springs. Typically hosted at a marquis hotel within Downtown Palm Springs. This event will give you a fun introduction of your inner expressiveness. It’s only about 1.5-2hrs away from Los Angeles.

Since it is an international event, you will see lots of men that will be in the middle part of their holiday and come by Palm Springs to have fun and cultivate relationships before they see their American counterparts in their home cities later in the year for international bear weeks.

@ibcpalmspring2019

“IBC’s pool parties and dance events are legendary as well and highlighted several DJ’s internationally along with bringing in gay icons such as Martha Walsh (Weather Girls), Ultra Nate and Kristine W.

Price: $400-1500.00 for the week

Rating: 3 honey pots

2 BEAR VACATION DESTINATIONS IN CALIFORNIA THAT WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE MUCH EASIER AND YOUR POCKETBOOK.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
